Wearing this type of shirt with a suit gives your look a new-age appeal. You can wear it with close-tailored suits or with loose fits and casual styles. Either way the message is that you are ready for business but open to creativity. Givenchy's classic black suit is given an edge with a collarless white shirt; A slouchy fit with rolled hem by Commes des Garcons says your suit is less work and more play; and Yohji Yamamoto's shrunken collar makes the relaxed fit of the suit look intentional, rather than just poorly fit.

This trend is seen often combined with another spring trend - the sheer shirt. Hugo by Hugo Boss pairs it with a crisp white suit, while Dior Homme, and Kris Van Assche do the look with casual separates. The sheer fabric and collar-free style allow a print overlay to take center stage, as with Alexander McQueen.

A few designers took the collarless trend to the extreme and crafted shirts with a v-neck. The result was to render a button up shirt into a cardigan of sorts - but thinner. Giorgio Armani offered up a gauzy version; and Tim Hamilton created one from starchy white shirting material.

This style of shirt seems to be just warming up this year and will likely grow in strength in the coming seasons. It's not a classic, however, so keep in mind that when you wear it you will instantly project a fashion-conscious personality. This one isn't an investment piece, unless you plan to keep it for 20 years!
