Suitable Sport Jackets
for Cool Seasons

Sport jackets for cool seasons comes in a wider range of styles. Similarly like jackets for warmer seasons, we have to focus on the fabric and color. For this reason the many fabrics provides more types of jackets available.

For the cooler or colder periods during Autumn and Winter, the use of nubby textured fabrics would be very suitable for your sport jackets.

Worsted wool, as explained in mens suits fabrics, is a very popular choice due to its versatility for all seasons. If you want to just focus on an all-round jacket, then you would have to choose one with worsted wool of medium weight. Heavier weight would make the fabric much too warm for Summer.

Other great fabrics to use in sport coats for cool seasons would definitely be corduroy, flannel, and moleskin. Corduroy and moleskin are both made from heavier cotton. Corduroy feels velvety and has ribbed finishing. So it gives a dressy style to your sport coats.

Moleskin, on the other hand, has a silky fur feel to it which becomes softer and aged look when worn for some time. So it has more casual and rugged look to this fabric for sport jackets.

These two fascinating cotton-based fabrics definitely create a much different styling in sport jackets for cool seasons than the usual serge wool navy blazers. Choose the earth tones (some examples are dark shades of brown, green, or even maroon colors) or monochromatic colors for these seasons.

During the much colder periods would require the heavier weight wool like Tweed. There are a few types of Tweed available:

  • Harris is the heavy weight Tweed and comes in herringbone designs;

  • Shetland is lighter weight than Harris and interestingly comes in plaid or stripe designs created from the weave;

  • Donegal has the unique nubs of colors that were weaved into the Tweed. It is these woven patterns on the fabric that can bring style in creating sport jackets for colder seasons.
