Mobile Phone Style Icons

Style is a way of life. It is reflected in our clothes, haircuts, houses and cars, but also in the type and design of our gadgets, and nothing is more of a window into our personalities than our mobile phones.

Women tend to opt for the pretty looking phones; the ones on contracts that let them talk for hours for less than the cost of Primark underwear or phones that come in pink with bracelet-like things attached to the top.

Men however, go for black or silver and a do-it-all phone with at least a 3 mega-pixel camera, 3G Internet, email and a massive storage capacity for music and films. It seems then, style and functionality are important to men so here are a few phones that style-conscious men, looking to make a good first impression on women and probably more importantly on other men in the office, should own.

Nokia always score highly with men. It is probably the most reliable brand, plus they manage to combine a plethora of gadgets with tasty-looking phones. The best right now has to be the eagerly awaited Nokia 5800. This sleek black number is sexier than Jessica Alba in a LBD. It has touch screen technology, handwriting recognition, 3G Internet, 3.2 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and an 8GB memory card. Its speakers come with surround sound and you’ll get a massive 35 hours of music playback before your battery packs in.

Next up is the new Blackberry Storm. As you would expect from a Blackberry it has 7.2mbps super fast Internet and emailing and a clear-as-day high-resolution screen. Blackberry has also now caught up with the times and realised we want to have a mp3 player combined with our phones so on the Storm you can store over 4,000 tracks; enough to keep you going during a boring staff meeting.

Sony Ericsson really know how to deliver on the music front. They have come a long way since the original Walkman tape recorders and the W715 is no exception. To change tracks on this sleek, silver stunner all you have to do is shake it plus you can create your own playlists with SenseMe. It also has 7.2mbps Internet access, 3.2 mega pixel camera and a cool and pretty damn handy built in GPS navigation system, so you may get lost in your music but not on the roads.
