Mens Pants Spring Summer 2010

This spring designers are putting male ankles on display by shortening pant hemlines. Anne Demeulemeester's white pants are almost short enough to be male peddle-pushers! They avoid the sometimes awkward look of cropped pants, however, by pairing with combat boots. This suit by Commes Des Garcons is definitely not for the shy fashion lover. This funky look, with it's patchwork jacket, borders on clownish, but wear it was confidence and you can pull it off. Otherwise just try the pants with something more neutral up top. Shipley & Halmos cropped these casual slacks for the ultimate carefree look; and Dior Homme’s relaxed fit suit is simplicity embodied.

The best trends are those that allow you to take what you already own and modify it for the times. With the cropped pants trend you don't have to actually chop the end of your trousers off, you can simply roll the hems. Louis Vuitton manages to keep this this look upscale despite the casual turn of the pants. The look from 3.1 Phillip Lim has a "geek chick" vibe; and Band of Outsiders turns preppy into a day at the beach.

Even suits are getting the short pants treatment. Dunhill, DKNY, and Dolce & Gabbana rolled up hems to give suit jackets a more casual finish. The best part of this version of the look is that when the trend passes all you need is a good iron to bring your wardrobe back in step.

The cropped look is perhaps neatest with skinny fit pants. This cut avoids the sloppy flopping about that can sometimes occur with shortened or rolled pants with a wider leg. Hugo by Hugo Boss does a skinny cropped pant in a very austere ensemble, while Trussardi 1911 presents a fun-loving hippy vibe. If you already have skinny jeans, you can roll the hems to imitate looks from Marni and Hermes.
