Khaki Color Spring Summer 2010

After a bit of a hiatus, khaki colors have swung back into fashion. In designer collections khaki has often replaced the predictable grey, brown and black as the preferred neutral base.

Ann Demeulemeester is known for making entire lines in nothing but black and white. This spring, however, the label added tan to the mix and brightened the mood. A khaki suit is a more casual alternative to suits in darker tones. Still Salvatore Ferregamo and Jean Paul Gaultier manage to make camel suits look dressy with sharp creasing and tuxedo details. Ralph Lauren worked up the ultimate all-American preppy look with a khaki linen suit, which is perfect for a hot summer afternoon.

A khaki blazer is a staple item that every man should own - especial for the warmer months of the year. For a relaxed fit try Marni's oversized blazer. D&G uses studs to add flair and texture to a camel-colored blazer. If you want something basic go with Emporio Armani's close-tailored tan blazer. Thom Browne adds preppy piping to a long blazer for a look that can go casual or upscale.

Khaki tones are ideal for outwear because they go with absolutely everything. 3.1 Phillip Lim's belted coat is a sturdy staple that you will want to wear season after season. From Calvin Klein Collection the long car coat has the cleanest lines you'll find anywhere. The simplicity of the piece allows you to take a risk like wearing a pair of peach-colored pants. Neil Barrett gives the classic trench a twist by shortening the sleeves. This jacket would be great to layer over a long-sleeve shirt to show off some color on the arms. Spring's warming weather calls for lightweight jackets. This one from Dior Homme is casual style at it's best - perfect with a t-shirt and jeans.

As the ultimate neutral, khaki tones are less harsh than black and younger and fresher than grey and brown. As such they are the ultimate neutral. They look sophisticated paired with crisp whites and solid blacks, but you should also try wearing khaki with spring's bright colors and patterns. They make a perfect backdrop for adding statement pieces to your style.
