Question:
I've been getting alot of different opinions on what type of suit jacket cut looks best on a painfully thin man @ 5'll and 125lbs. Narrow shoulders and chest. Hip widest part of body. Know to stay away from pinstripes. Also know that pattern and lighter colors give girth. The real question is two button or three. Some feel the two button breaks up the line which is best. Others feel
the three button is more suited. I'm not trying to look shorter just not as skinny as I am. Heavier fabrics not an option I live in Los Angeles.
Answer:
You have given one of the most challenging questions I have so far. I will be showing illustrations extracted from The Sartorialist

You can see in the picture above that the guy is also quite slim but is able to carry off his suit jacket very well. The suit is cut slightly loose but not overly wide to make you look engulfed by the suit. Take extra note on the shoulders which are made wider to compensate for his narrow shoulders. Avoid lapels that are too wide since it will shorten your shoulder even more. To accentuate more volume of the upper body, the option of a slim cut pants is a good choice.

Now the trend is to wear slim-fitted suits as shown in the light gray slim suit above. This particular suit has much shorter sleeves and suit length which is generally more suitable for slim guys. Of course, wearing such slim-fitted suits will emphasize your small frame but you will look very trendy. But this can only be achieved by good tailors that does not overly emphasize your thin body frame. However, from this picture we can learn that light colored suits compliment the slim body frame better than going for a dark colored suit. Light colored suits beef up the frame. Dark colored ones give an illusion of smaller frames which you want to avoid.

Similarly, in the brown slim suit above, the man has a small frame too but it is offset with a light color scheme too. He wore a stripe suit that still makes him look good. Why? Because his stripes are widely spaced and lightly toned. You would not want closely spaced stripes and prominent stripes that will make your body frame look even thinner and smaller. The other best choices of patterns that compliments the body frame is plaid and windowpanes because of the criss-cross strong lines gives your body frame more volume.
I would go for a two-button considering your height. Don't make your first button too high. Let it show more of your dress shirt to give an illusion of more your upper body.
