Question:
I'm 53 and dress conservative. I have a navy blazer and will be going to a small evening theater. A dance company is playing. I need advice on what colors to wear with the navy blazer as far as shirt and slacks.
I have a white shirt with thin blue strips giving it a very light blue haze and I like the gray slacks, but what about tie color too?
Answer:
A navy blazer is very easy to coordinate. Go for a white dress shirt if you find it very difficult to try other colors. Otherwise, go for medium blue or light blue. It gives a very nice gradient color of blue from blazer to shirt. Then try a charcoal or dark gray pants since it is an evening event. If not available, then a black color pants would do too. These colors should work out well with your navy blazer.
Those two choices that you have are absolutely fine. Now your choice of tie color can be with more tinge of blue to coordinate with your shirt. Preferably choose a darker blue to offset the lighter blue of your shirt. If you are going for stripe ties, then bigger stripes would be better.
