Straight Ties or Bow Ties
for Tux Shirt

I bought a new tux for my christmas night out and wondered if i could wear a straight black tie as opposed to the the traditional bow tie and how fasionably acceptable this would be?

Answer:

Is your tux shirt with straight collar or turn up collar? Straight collar allows you to wear a black necktie but the turn up collar is meant for bow ties. If you choose to wear a necktie, then it would be advisable to choose one that is satin, just as your bow tie would be. Wearing necktie would make your overall look less formal and if this is what you want to achieve, then it is fine.
