Fashion Advice 27: Matching Navy Blue Dress Shoes

Fashion Advice 27:
How do we match navy blue dress shoes for business casual? Are we supposed to match it against blue belt?

Question:

Thanks so much for your great advice on men's wardrobe. It's refer to it often.

I have a question about navy blue slips on. I received a pair of Ferragamo Bruno 2 navy blue (indigo) driving shoes and maybe its because of my conservative fashion sense, but I can't seem to appreciate the color with my current wardrobe. Couple questions:

  1. What would you recommend for business casual outfit (color/pant type)?

  2. Do I have to wear a matching blue belt??

I am an Asian male with black hair with light/reddish complexion.

Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you!!

Answer:

  1. Because of its color, it should be considered relatively casual pair of dress shoe. But also because of its darker color, you can easily wear it with most business casual outfit as though it is a black pair of shoes. There is very minimal color contrast that draws much difference in the way you would wear any business casual outfit. However, I would probably try wearing it white or cream white pants against this navy blue dress shoes.

  2. As for color of your belt, to specifically find a belt that is of navy blue color should be quite a hurdle. Therefore, I would say wearing a black belt against it is fine.
