Mens Fashion Advice 21

Fashion Advice 21:
Choosing the right dress shirt collars for wide and round faces?

Question:

I am buying shirts for my brother who is a HUSKY 6'3" and 300 lbs. So i think the spread collars are OUT as they would accentuate his heft and round face. But now the narrower european straight collars seem to also do the same as the contrast would be too much? Or am i incorrect and should i go with european straight vs. standard straight?

Answer:

If you refer to my page Dress Shirts Collars, you would understand that rounded or wide faces should never wear spread collars. This will definitely accentuate the width of the face. Instead your choice of straight collars is correct. But which straight collars to choose from. Actually both are just as good. Since the European Straight Collars are narrower in gap between the collars than Straight, then choosing European Straight might be a better choice. However, the Standard Straight collars is also not a wrong choice and becomes a personal choice of which type of collar. I personally feel their difference will not be significant toward your brother's face.
