Fashion Advice 20

Fashion Advice 20:
The differences between Straight collars, European Straight collars, Spread Winsor collars and Spread Varsity collars?

Question:

I appreciate your article on the different types of collars in men's dress shirts. However (on Paul Fredrick), I do see types of collars not mentioned in your article, and would love to know the difference between Straight, Straight European, Spread Windsor, and Spread Varsity collars.

Answer:

Let me clarify that there are many hybrid types of collars being produced in the market. What I stated in my website are the classic styles widely known and understood worldwide.

The European Straight collar has a much slimmer gap between the collars than the Straight collar. The Spread Winsor collar is much wider than the straight collar as its name suggest like a spread wing. But the Spread Varsity has a wide collar similar like the Spread Winsor but it has a slight arc on both collars instead of the usual straight looking ones.
