Bow Ties for the Stylish Men
Bow ties came in two forms in the late nineteenth century, the butterfly and the batwing. The butterfly was the initial style used which has a more flare shape at the ends and having a small knot in the middle. It was later that the batwing was adopted that has a square narrower end. The advantage of the batwing is that it can easily be fitted to most collar sizes compared to the butterfly wing which has to be made in different widths so as to fit the collar sizes. In general, the ends of the butterfly wings should not be more than 2-3/4 inches or less than 2-1/4 inches in width while the batwing ends should be 1-1/2 inches to 2 inches.

If you think that bow ties are meant for formal occasions then you will be surprised that it is also suitable for informal occasions too. It also does not necessarily be worn with only tuxedoes. In fact, it can be for any day and night events and worn with both single breasted or double breasted suits. It is a very versatile neck accessory that is as good as any necktie. When wearing a bow tie there is a tendency to reveal more of your shirt frontal area compared to a necktie. Therefore, it is commonly worn with a vest or waistcoat to reduce the large frontal exposure and makes a men's style complete. It is critical that the bow does not take the focus away from the face.

Make sure that the width should not be more than the width of your face otherwise it will be considered overwhelming and will definitely steal the limelight from your face. In addition, do not have the width extend more than the collar edges. The collar should frame the tie and so it should be within its edges. Therefore, a few adjustments might be necessary to ensure that the bow is not too wide and stays within those two criterion. The fun thing about bow tie is that you can create different styles for the same tie and different ties. It can be the simple result of your mood at the moment of tying as well as your wish to create a unique knot or bow.
